The Library Company of Philadelphia and The Historical Society of Pennsylvania will jointly award approximately twenty-five one-month fellowships for research in residence in either or both collections. These two independent research libraries, adjacent to each other in Center City Philadelphia, have complementary collections capable of supporting research in a variety of fields and disciplines relating to the history of America and the Atlantic world from the 17th through the 19th centuries, as well as Mid-Atlantic regional history to the present. https://librarycompany.org/academic-programs/fellowships/short-term/ The Massachusetts Historical Society will offer approximately twenty short-term research fellowships in 2006. Short-term awards are open to independent scholars, advanced graduate students, and holders of the Ph.D. or the equivalent, with candidates who live fifty or more miles from Boston receiving preference. http://www.masshist.org/research/fellowships/short-term The Phillips Fund of the American Philosophical Society provides grants for research in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of studies of Native Americans, in the continental United States and Canada. Grants are not made for projects in archaeology, ethnography, psycholinguistics, or for the preparation of pedagogical materials. The committee distinguishes ethnohistory from contemporary ethnography as the study of cultures and culture change through time. https://www.amphilsoc.org/grants/phillips-fund-native-american-research To promote advanced scholarship, the David Library of the American Revolution offers short-term Resident Research Fellowships for conducting research in its collections. DLAR’s rich resources in microfilm and print on virtually every aspect of the era of the American Revolution (1750-1800) are fully listed on this web site. amphilsoc.org/grants/david-center-american-revolution-short-term-resident-research-fellowships The purpose of the Fellowship is to support residencies at Hill Museum & Manuscript Library for research by senior scholars using the digital or a microfilm manuscript collection at HMML. The award is $5,000 in support of a residency of at least two weeks. Funds may be applied toward travel to and from Collegeville, housing and meals at Saint John’s University, and costs related to duplication of HMML’s microfilm or digital resources. The Fellowship may be supplemented by other sources of funding but may not be held simultaneously with another HMML fellowship. The purpose of the Fellowship is to support residencies at HMML for graduate students or postdoctoral scholars with demonstrated expertise in the languages and cultures of Eastern Christianity. Awardees must be undertaking research on some aspect of Eastern Christian studies requiring use of the digital or microfilm manuscript collections at HMML. Application materials should explain the research project's focus, methodology, engagement with existing scholarship, and the intended product, as well as Hagley collection(s) to be used during the proposed grant residency. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with Hagley staff prior to submitting their application. hagley.org/henry-belin-du-pont-research- The Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies awards NEH Research Fellowships of five, ten, or fifteen-week duration to scholars who can make use of the rich and varied resources available at Saint Louis University. These include the Vatican Film Library as well as the manuscript, rare book, and general collections of Pius XII Library. The Vatican Film Library holds extensive portions of the Vatican Library’s Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts on microfilm. In addition, it has one of the largest collections of microfilmed Jesuit historical documents from the 16th to the 19th centuries. slu.edu/arts-and-sciences/medieval-renaissance-studies/fellowships.php Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources in the humanities. Projects may be at any stage of development. http://www.neh.gov/grants/research/fellowships A post-doctoral fellowship in the field of health and spirituality, made possible by a generous endowment from the International Center for the Integration of Health and Spirituality (ICIHS), the fellowship is named in honor of the Center’s late founder, David B. Larson, an epidemiologist and psychiatrist, who focused on potentially relevant but understudied factors which might help in prevention, coping, and recovering from illness. The fellowship is designed to continue Dr. Larson’s legacy of promoting meaningful, scholarly study of these two important and increasingly interrelated fields. It seeks to encourage the pursuit of scholarly excellence in the scientific study of the relation of religiousness and spirituality to physical, mental, and social health. Awards support research on modern Japanese society and political economy, Japan's international relations, and U.S.-Japan relations. The program encourages innovative research that puts these subjects in wider regional and global contexts and is comparative and contemporary in nature. Research should contribute to scholarly knowledge or to the general public’s understanding of issues of concern to Japan and the United States. Appropriate disciplines for the research include anthropology, economics, geography, history, international relations, linguistics, political science, psychology, public administration, and sociology. http://www.neh.gov/grants/research/fellowships-advanced-social-science-research-japan One Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow will be appointed to the Wesleyan University Center for the Humanities for the whole academic year. He or she will teach a one-semester undergraduate course; participate in the collegial life of the Center for the Humanities, which sponsors conferences, lectures, and colloquia; and give one public lecture. http://www.wesleyan.edu/humanities/fellowships/mellon.html Over the course of five decades, ARCE’s fellowship program has benefited more than 650 scholars, whose research interests span the diversity of Egypt’s periods and cultures. Program alumni include directors and faculty of Middle Eastern studies departments at leading universities in the United States and abroad, and curators of Egyptian and Near Eastern art at major museums and research institutions. Our goal at CHF is to select the best applicants from a large pool and so we do not ask people to apply for a specific fellowship (with the exception of Société and Ullyot fellowships). Rather we encourage applications from all researchers working on topics related to history of science and technology with an emphasis on chemical matters, broadly construed. https://www.sciencehistory.org/fellowships The Center for Jewish History is pleased to offer several fellowships including a Visiting Scholars Program, an NEH Fellowship for Senior Scholars, and more. Fellowship awards at the Center for Jewish History have supported cutting-edge research in the rich collections of the Center’s partners – American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. More than 100 humanities scholars at various stages of their careers and research projects have taken up residence at the Center and profited from opportunities to share their work with leading scholars in their fields. Support from the NEH and other funders has been critical in helping to build an interdisciplinary community of scholars. cjh.org/research/fellowships-at-the-center The Hutchins Center community is rich in programming and opportunities to network with scholars engaged in African and African American research.
